Bluestacks Jam up €2,400.00 for Hospice

Another note from Greg Gorman about the very successfully Bluestacks Jam on Monday nights in the Abbey Hotel. I've heard reports from home that it's wile craic and the music is good. Keep up the good work Greg and here's to all the great musicans who play their hearts out.
With the weekly jam sessions now very well established, far from the novelty wearing off, Monday nights in the Abbey Hotel just keep getting bigger better & tighter, with fantastic talent coming out of the woodwork to join the party.
In the last few Monday nights, heading up were Nasty and the Fantastics, who gave a powerful performance and have been playing raw blues and rock and roll around the Letterkenny/Ramelton area for the last 5/6 years. Band Members, Ciaran(vocals/guitar), Adam(bass), Justy(drums) and Christian(guitar) got together and unleashed an unrehearsed and raw set. After many years of non-rehearsal the band try to keep it as simple and raw as possible (although also a bit mellower). Those with a taste for good blues enjoyed their performance. A short shambolic selection is available at their MySpace page.

Fellow headline act was Donegal town band 'Serial Twin', a powerful trio delivering rock covers as well as their own fantastic compositions. Ciaran Mc Namara bass, Fintan Gallagher Guitar & Vocals , and Damien McGlanaghey Drums & Vocals. They are currently recording an album, with up & coming gigs in Dublin where they play their own material; they can also be caught at the Moville Festival soon too.

Donegal's Pavesi also headed up with an outstanding performance of their own original set with Micky 'Duck' Gallagher (vocals), Ronan Hanna(Guitar), Michael Gillespie(Bass), Mark Hanna(drums) another headline came from Serbian Heros Danny 'vito' Kelley (Guitar & Vocals), Chris Young Drums, Aaran Morrow (Guitar), Coryn Mac Cullagh(Guitar). Also, a fine performance by local guys Tribal Smoke and then Raymond Mc Groary.

The Rain Dogs: piano Deane Connaghan; Bass Michael Gillispie and drums Johnny McCabe. Emma Hughes & Zara Montgomery sang with them and very soulful sound they had.

Then Jeffery O'Callaghan and the Elements gave us some rock'n'trad with a new sound.

The Live Register Band: Rory Griffen (guitar), Dave Murry (drums), and Ronan O'Doherty (guitar) with always a new set each week.

Sásta band; Louise Price (vocal) and Keith Sherry (guitar) with some old and new hits. Singer song writer Jim Carbin and the very talented Skippy "Guitar" Meehan with Brian Cannon (drums), Peter Cannon guitar, Morgan Ferriter (base) and Enda Ferriter (keyboard). Solo man and original material from John Grealish and singer/songwriter Emily Whelan both performing their own songs and solo performer Jimmy Gallagher with the Bluestacks Backers.
As Always DJ Kiaran Campbell was dishing out groovy vibes through the Damion Edwards sound system accompanied by Cathall and Ciaran.

We have raised €2,400.00 from our sponsors. See a list of sponsors at:
http://donegalfriends.blogspot.com/2009/07/bluestack-jammers-raise-210000.html

We would like to thank and invite our sponsors "and please support them" to co-present this with us to The Donegal Hospice on Monday the 3rd of August @930pm in the Abbey Hotel.

Retired Garda shot dead.

Sorry for the sporadic postings recently. But I though this was important. A retired Garda detective beleived to be from Donegal died of a gunshot wound. The shooting happened at the Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station:

http://oceanfm.ie/news/2009/07/26/garda-in-fatal-shooting-incident-believed-to-be-from-donegal/

According to reports in todays Sunday Tribune, the 53 year old man was from Donegal and retired from the force in May of this year.

He was a detective and had served for 35 years,

It is believed that the deceased was in the station in relation to his former role, when the incident happened shortly before 10 o clock yesterday morning.

Gardai confirmed that an official firearm was used, however no more details are being realeased about the incident at this stage.

However, the Sunday Tribune claims the Garda shot himself:
http://www.tribune.ie/news/home-news/article/2009/jul/26/investigation-launched-after-retired-garda-detecti/
"He was one of the soundest men you could ever meet. There was never any sign that he had any problems. Out of the 50 or so current or retired gardaí in Carrick-on-Shannon, he would be the last one anyone would suspect of doing something like this," said a source.

"He was big into GAA and competed in athletics nationally. He was a go-to guy in the guards and was well liked and regarded. He was very active in the local community as well. He was enjoying his retirement, playing golf and taking it easy. It's just very, very sad for his family.
